This original cocktail was created to commemorate the first anniversary of the end of the so-called Whisky War - a border dispute between Canada and Denmark over the territory of Hans Island, during which the two countries would take turns planting their flag in the island, and exchange bottles of whisky or aquavit.
The Whisky War ended with Canada and Denmark agreeing to split the island in half, and so this cocktail naturally includes equal parts Vintersol No.1 Original Aquavit and Canadian rye whisky, along with maple syrup, orange bitters, and tobacco bitters. To serve, simply pour over ice, stir, and garnish with a ribbon of flamed orange peel.
